Just like people, each tree has its own character and unique physical characteristics.

Each wood species has knots, wood grain and natural markings. A uniform, multi-step lacquer coating is carefully applied to each piece of furniture to enhance and protect its wood grain.


The care

Solid wood and lacquer require special care to ensure long lasting beauty for years to come.

Please keep in mind that wood is sensitive to changes in humidity. As the weather changes, so does the humidity in your home and moisture content of your solid wood furniture. Each piece of lumber goes through a strict, and slow kiln drying process. However, your piece of furniture may experience plank movement or cracks as the seasons change, especially during the first 6-12 months of ownership. This is completely normal for solid wood products and will not affect the integrity and durability of the product.




Protect your product

In order to keep your newly purchased product from IFD, please follow these recommendations


1) Our furniture is for indoor use only. Try to keep it in conditions that are not too dry or too humid.

2) To clean our products use a dry cloth only or a slightly moist cloth with water if necessary. The use of abrassive cleaners might affect the quality and look of the finish of your piece.

3) If your piece experiences slight movements of wood, use a wood finish stain marker if necessary.



Tips to protect your solid wood furniture

  • Sudden changes of temperature and humidity can stress your furniture, use a humidifier in winter to make up for the dryness created by heaters. During the summer use air conditioner.
  • Place furniture away from vents, radiators, fireplaces, and other heating sources.
  • Avoid placing hot items on surfaces, this will damage lacquer and wood.
  • Lacquer responds to temperature and light. Lacquer finishes will age more rapidly if placed close to a window or exposed directly to sunlight.
  • Dust with a clean, damp cloth. This will reduce build up that can scratch the finish. You can use high quality furniture polish sporadically to enhance the finish. Avoid using waxes.
  • Wipe off liquid spills immediately.
  • Alcohol, nail polish remover and perfume will dissolve the finish on contact, try to keep these solvents away from lacquered finished pieces.



Rustic, white-finish collections

Specifications for collections featuring lighter finishes such as white, ivory and light gray, that are build in solid pine.

Among the many characteristics of solid pine, a living material that naturally reacts to environmental conditions by shrinking, expanding, and cracking, this wood species also features knots and color variations on the wood grain.

Some knots bleed resin which may seep to the surface underneath the white finish and develop amber markings. Other knots might not ever change.

Environmental conditions such as excessive dryness, humidity, sun exposure /direct sunlight will speed up these natural aging features.

All the above features provide the piece a unique look of time-worn furniture. We do not consider these characteristics to be defects, but natural markings of a piece made of real wood that don’t affect the integrity and functionality of the furniture.

Touching up a solid-wood rustic piece is easy and can be done periodically by anyone. At IFD we are able to offer touch-up kits through our Service Center to anyone who desires to cover occassional amber markings.

Cleaning Code for upholstered pieces

 The cleaning code will give you the best method for cleaning your upholstered pieces.

 Water Based Cleaner

This code means that you can spot clean your fabric with a water-based shampoo or foam upholstery cleaner. You can use a brush to agitate the cleaner or even an upholstery attachment on a carpet cleaner.Be careful to avoid over-wetting the stain.

 Dry Clean Only

You can spot treat stains with a water-free solvent or dry-cleaning product. Use solvent cleaners in a well-ventilated room and keep away from open flames. Avoid using cleaning products contaning carbon tetrachloride, as it is highly toxic.

As you might expect, means that a combination of dry-cleaning solvents and water-based cleaners may be used. These fabrics can be spot cleaned with upholstery shampoo, foam from a mild detergent, or a mild dry-cleaning solvent. This is a case where the pre-test is especially import. For overall dirt, call a professional to clean these fabrics.

A code X means the fabric is not cleanable with water or solvent cleaners. They can only be cleaned by vacuuming or light brushing.


Upholstery Fabric & Faux Leather Care Tips

 For everyday cleaning of your upholstered pieces, use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum the furniture´s surface to remote any loose dirt.

 Clean spills immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth or absorbent paper towel. If a stain remains, do deeper cleaning according to the fabric´s cleaning code or call a professional upholstery cleaner.
